The Clinical Experierience on the Rebound Phenomenon of Estrogen

Abstract
In the seventeen cases reported in this paper the writer observed the development of processes for a protracted period based on the records prepared by patients concerned.
In the said cases the patients arbitrarily applied large amount(30-90 mgs) of estrogen every day without receiving proper. instructions from specialists in connection with sterility, dyspareunia, neuralgia, growing old and weak, etc.; and produced the records describing the amounts used, the number of days involved, and the development of processes with a high degree of accuracy.
The results obtained, from the observation of this rebound phenomenon revealed that the pregnancy was caused in the said seventeen cases after the use of large amount of estrogen was continued for a certain period and then suspended(in the three cases out of them the writer continued to apply small amount of estrogen after the suspension of the use ¢¥ of large amount.)
The results are summarized as follows:
1) After large amount of estrogen was applied and then suspended, there occurred the hyperestrogenism (irregular bleeding after a menstruation).
2) It is considered that the application of rebound phenomenon to a certain types of sterility patients has a successful effect to bring about pregnancy. In the ten cases reported where large amount of estrogen was applied and suspended, and then the hyperestrogenism followed, the pregnancy was caused in three cases after the normal menstrual cycle repeating one to three times, and. in. the remaining seven¢¥ cases immediately following the hyperestrogenism with no normal menstrual cycle taking, place.
3) In the three cases involving anovulatory cycle. where large amount of estrogen was applied and suspended, the ovulation was induced, leading to the pregnancy.
Thus, the inducement of ovulation by estrogen was observed.
4) In the three cases where small amount of estrogen was . applied uninterruptedly after the suspension of large amount, it may be considered reasonable that the function of anterior lobe should be suppressed. In point of fact, however, it is considered that the uninterrupted application of small amount of estrogen rather served to effectively stimulate the central system, thus causing the pregnancy.
5) In the seven cases. where the chief complain consisted of other than sterility, the hyperestrogenism was caused after the suspension of large amount of estrogen. However, by the rebound phenomenon thus caused the pregnancy was stimulated with the occurrence of one or no normal menstrual cyle.
In conclusion, it is considered that the rebound phenomenon of estrogen serves to effectively stimulate the central system, thus causing the pregnancy, if it is clinically applied to patients involved in sterility of which the cause in unknown, anovulatory sterility, or those desiring early stage pregnancy.
